Göteborgsvarvet aims to be one of the world's most sustainable events relative to its size and strives for continuous improvement from year to year.

Göteborgsvarvet is committed to sustainability across all three dimensions of sustainable development by minimizing negative environmental impact, promoting societal well-being, ensuring economic prosperity for athletics clubs in Gothenburg and other parts of the country, and contributing to charitable causes.

Göteborgsvarvet addresses social sustainability issues such as equality, gender equality, and public health, and creates events where all individuals are welcome and have the opportunity to participate.

Göteborgsvarvet minimizes negative environmental impact by:

  • Providing 100% vegetarian meals for staff and volunteers.
  • Ensuring that all food sold to participants and spectators is 100% vegetarian.
  • Sourcing all food items as much as possible from organic, locally-produced, and Fairtrade-certified sources.
  • Coordinating and minimizing transportation before, during, and after events.
  • Facilitating and encouraging the use of sustainable transportation methods such as trains, public transportation, and bicycles.
  • Promoting sustainable resource usage following the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle, and ensuring adequate opportunities for waste recycling.
  • Continuously increasing staff awareness and competence in sustainability issues through regular training sessions.

Göteborgsvarvet utilizes its influence to encourage other stakeholders to work towards sustainable development by setting requirements for sponsors, partners, and suppliers.
