It looks like it will be a sunny and warm race on Saturday!
Running the Göteborgsvarvet is an achievement in itself, but doing it in very warm and sunny conditions can be particularly challenging. Therefore, we want to share a few important tips to help you make it all the way to the finish line.
Make sure you are properly hydrated
It is important to stay properly hydrated before, during, and after the race. There are a total of 9 hydration stations along the course, so make sure to drink at every stop! To prevent muscle cramps and fatigue, it is also good to consume sports drinks or a pinch of salt during the race.
Water is available at all our hydration stations, with energy drinks at four stations (Karl IXs väg, Theres Svenssons gata, Hisingsbron, and the School of Business, Economics and Law). There is also salt at the last table of each station. Study the course map to know where the hydration stations are located.
Eat properly before the race
Make sure to get enough energy before the race by eating well the day before and having a substantial breakfast on race day. Adding a bit of extra salt before a hot race day is also beneficial.
Adjust your pace
Ensure you don't start the race too fast and try to maintain a steady pace throughout. Another option is to start off slowly and potentially increase your speed later on.
Use appropriate gear
Run in suitable clothes and shoes that are light and breathable to help your body cool down. A hat or sunscreen can also help protect you from the sun. Visit Eucerin at the Göteborgsvarvet EXPO where they will be handing out sunscreen.
Pay attention to your body's signals
During the race, it is important to listen to your body to avoid overexertion. If you feel dizzy or nauseous, take a break and make sure you are properly hydrated.
Have fun!
Remember, the most important thing is to have fun. Maybe this isn't the year to break records. Good luck and enjoy the race!
Do you have more questions?
Take the opportunity to chat with our race doctor, Per, who will be available for more questions in the GP.se chat from 16:15 today, May 16th.
Good luck on Saturday from all of us at Göteborgsvarvet!
